John Rower, PMHNP

Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner located in Tigard, OR

Originally from Grand Rapids, Michigan, John Rower’s path to the Pacific Northwest began with a quiet curiosity about the West. After reading David James Duncan’s The River Why, a seed was planted that eventually drew him to the Oregon landscape. He arrived with a steady work ethic and a sense of service that has remained the bedrock of his professional life ever since.
John’s clinical approach is informed by years of practical, everyday experience. Before becoming a PMHNP, he spent fifteen years working in general labor, retail, and food service—roles that provided a grounded understanding of people and the value of showing up for one another. He began his healthcare career as an Air Force Medic and continues to serve today as a Nurse Corps Officer in the Oregon Air National Guard. His civilian career has included work as a community health worker, an ED Medic, an RN at the Oregon State Hospital, and an RN Leader at PeaceHealth Sacred Heart Medical Center.

Currently, John is pursuing advanced training through the Psychiatry Redefined fellowship, specializing in a biological and functional approach to mental health with a particular focus on ADHD. John understands that for a child with ADHD, medication is often only one piece of the puzzle. He partners with families to explore root causes, such as nutrient deficiencies and environmental factors, to find a path that aligns with the family’s values and the child’s unique needs.

John’s philosophy is rooted in his faith and the conviction that every person deserves to be seen and loved. He views the provider-patient relationship as a partnership of joint purpose, believing that we are not meant to navigate life’s challenges in isolation. He strives to foster a sense of love and wholeness within every encounter, believing that a calm and steady presence is something built together to create a window through which a client—and their family—can see recovery and growth as a possibility. His goal is for those he serves to catch a vision for their own potential and lean into a quiet expectation of change.

Outside of the clinic, John finds balance in the work of tending to his home or the kitchen. While he enjoys the utility of a good tool for a concrete project, he remains mindful that the most important work he does—both in his family and his practice—cannot be solved with a piece of equipment. It requires the courage to be present, the willingness to listen, and the simple, transformative power of showing up for one another.
