Diagnostic Evaluations & Medication Management

Our ADHD Evaluation Process

At ADHD Child & Family Services, we help families figure out if their child has ADHD or something else going on. We take our time to get to know your child and how they are doing at home, at school, and in other places. This process usually happens in about four visits. We talk, observe, test, and work together with families, schools, and medical providers.

We start with a 15 minute video call to learn about your concerns and explain the next steps. We’ll collect:

• Your child’s medical, school, and development history
• Signed forms to share information
• Rating checklists for parents and teachers to fill out
• Extra tools if we’re checking for autism too

Who you’ll meet: A therapist or diagnostic specialist:

This is a meeting with you (the parent or caregiver) and the child to learn about:

• Your child’s behavior at home, school, and in the community
Family history, stress, or changes
• What’s going well and what’s hard for your child

Who you’ll meet: A trained child specialist

Your child will spend time with a clinician using play, art, or games. We look at:

• How they focus and handle frustration
• How they express emotions and interact
• Thinking skills like planning and staying organized
• Creative and cognitive strengths
• Social skills

Optional but helpful

We learn how your child is doing at school by:

• Sending rating forms to teachers
Looking at IEPs, 504s, or report cards
• Sometimes talking to teachers or visiting school

Who you’ll meet: A trained testing clinician or school psychologist

Some children need more testing to understand their brain and learning. We may use:

• Attention tests like TOVA or CPT
• Memory or thinking skill tests
• IQ or school tests (especially if we think they may be gifted or have a learning difference)

We look at how your child’s abilities match their schoolwork.

Who you’ll meet: Pediatric Nurse Mental Health Professional (PNMHP) who specializes in child mental health

We check for other things that could cause ADHD-like symptoms. We look at:

• Sleep and food habits
• Medical and family history

Any medicine your child takes

Who you’ll meet: The psychologist or clinician

We meet with you to explain what we found and what it means. You’ll get:

• A clear explanation of any diagnosis
• A written report

Helpful ideas and support, like:

• Parent help or therapy
• School plans (like 504 or IEP)
• Medication advice (if needed)

We’ll also talk with your child’s school or doctors if you’d like.

Why This Matters

Every child is different. ADHD doesn’t look the same in everyone. That’s why we take time to really understand your child. Our goal is to give your family clear answers and helpful support so your child can feel and do their best.
